Unpaid Days Off

Following up on a previous rumor, we have the following from the comments:
  • At least 2, and possibly up to 5 exempts are getting ready to retire instead of taking Daley's mandatory furlough days. Should be interesting. Best of luck to PM and DS.

    It's actually six! They all told DALEY to kiss their asses. They are not taking 20 forced unpaid days and are tired of all the bullshit with JFED!!!

    Pat McNulty; Dave Sobczyk; John Doty; Mike McCotter; Tom Argenbright; Bob Lopez;
    Dennis Rayl (On medical for last year due to medical issue but also re-submitting papers)
So that's about 200 years worth of Department experience being flushed down the drain. Some of it isn't real police experience of course, but some of it is irreplaceable. But guess who hasn't been taking any time off, even as the mayor demands non-union workers take 16 days and exempts to take 20 days off?
  • Seven Chicago aldermen have yet to take any unpaid days off for more than two years, even as Mayor Richard Daley wants city workers to take as many as 16 furlough days this year to help deal with a growing budget deficit.

    Within hours of the Tribune posting the list online Wednesday, three of the seven aldermen called the city clerk's office to each schedule six days off.

    City Hall employees already have been forced to take as many as two furlough days in 2007 and six last year. But most elected officials took no more than three unpaid days last year, according to city budget documents obtained by the Tribune through the state's public records law.
And that's on top of the 6% raise they voted for themselves.
