Shortshanks Finds the Money

Is anyone going to call this asshole on any of this? Or is it just us and a few other bloggers?
  • Forget the new name given to the former Sears Tower. The nation's tallest building is in effect becoming Chicago's real "United Center." United Airlines owner UAL Corp. will move its operations center from the northwest suburbs to the recently renamed Willis Tower, 233 S. Wacker.

Chicago Ald. Robert Fioretti, whose 2nd Ward includes the building, confirmed the move this morning.

Fioretti said he is meeting with the company today to discuss details of UAL's request for a city subsidy covering part of the relocation's cost. He said the request is for about $25 million.

Fioretti is working a deal to get United $25 million in taxpayer money? Why isn't this guy on the City's negotiating committee if he can find funds this quickly? But that isn't the truly amazing amount of money Shortshanks is looking to spend:
  • Chicago taxpayers must spend $100 million to transform the old Michael Reese Hospital site on the Near South Side into an Olympic Village.

On Wednesday, Mayor Daley’s Olympic bid team confirmed the $100 million pricetag to install roads, sewers and utilities, raising questions about how the Chicago 2016 organizing committee and Daley can continually say the games won’t cost taxpayers a dime — especially at a time when the city is dealing with a mounting fiscal crisis.

Well the answer to this question simple - Daley lies every time he opens his mouth. And if the media had done its job over the past 20 years instead of tonguing the mayors ass, we might not be in this predicament.

We might also have had a contract two years ago.
