They "Closed" a Park?

  • Two Chicago police officers and an 18-year-old pedestrian were transported to area hospitals after police All-Terrain Vehicles collided as they were responding to a person with a gun report near the Bud Billiken parade today.

Also, police ordered Washington Park, near 51st Street and King Drive, closed about 3:50 p.m. because of shots fired in the area, although no one was reported wounded in the shootings, according to a Wentworth District officer.

How does someone order a park "closed?" Even at the '68 Convention, efforts to "clear" the parks were mostly futile. In this day and age of cameras and video phones? Let's be realistic - even if we had the manpower to "close" a park, we'd never be allowed to clear it. Daley would never permit it.

In the meantime, a speedy recovery is wished to the officers. And we'll see what pops up in the comment section.
