Anyone else getting the impression that things are falling apart around here?
- It's a startling discovery: Massive iron bolts could be falling from CTA elevated tracks.
[...] CBS 2 photographer [...] found 7-inch-long metal screws and bolts on Lake street under the CTA's elevated Green Line.
[...] noticed the bolts in the street as he biked to work over the past several months. So where did they come from?
"It's obviously some sort of rivet," he said. "I don't see how these would just magically appear out of nowhere in the middle of Lake Street."
It's not magic wise-ass - it's gravity. Now how about checking out any one-mile stretch of a random Chicago street and count the potholes. Check out the sinking sewer covers. You'd be surprised how easy it is to find a hydrant with an ice puddle surrounding it for 20 or 30 feet. Daley's cutting of basic maintenance is contributing to a steady failure of infrastructure and it's only a matter of time until something seriously collapses.
