Abbate Guilty
Duh:
A Cook County judge today found Chicago Police officer Anthony Abbate guilty of aggravated battery for his 2007 attack on a female bartender, saying that even if the woman pushed and shoved Abbate to get him to leave a restricted area, "that did not justify his actions afterward, which were completely out of proportion."
Earlier in the day, Judge John J. Fleming, presiding over the bench trial, acquitted Abbate of two lesser charges of official misconduct.
Thank goodness we've now seen the last of that video! It was getting tedious.

Disturbing Video
This video was pointed out to us in the comment sections approximately 8 hours before Officer Valadez was shot and killed in Englewood. In it, a number of individuals threaten to "shoot at they" police and put some "four-fives" in the police for an alleged confrontation earlier:
It appears to have been uploaded on 30 May and shot from a mobile phone. It's definitely Englewood. At the end, it appears the subjects are passing a gun from one pocket to another.
Anyone from the mainstream media want to take this one and run with it? A glimpse behind the curtain? Run this at the top of your newscasts? A video filmed in Englewood threatening to shoot at and injure or even kill Chicago Police Officers. And within two days, it comes to pass? Coincidence? Or evidence of a broadbased declaration of war on the police?

Posts Running Late Tonight
Due to the outpouring of support for the fallen today, we're a bit behind.
Unfortunately, we had to delete a number of comments in the remembrance thread. We stated thoughts and prayers ONLY for the thread right below this one. The oaths of vengeance, the blame, the rip jobs on the media coverage and certain figures in certain positions, all that can wait for another thread.
Use this post if you want. But we're moderating almost 600 comments today from nearly 20,000 visitors and while we appreciate everyone wanting to get a word in, we aren't discussing contract issues, ASA's, men of the cloth or anything else at the moment.
Thanks for your patience.
UPDATE: We really don't feel like posting much tonight. Our heart isn't in the "sarcasm and silliness" frame. It's difficult to be entertaining after a day like today. We'll see what we can find tonight, but we aren't too hopeful.

Englewood Shooting - Officer Down (Update)
Critical condition:
UPDATE: Officer Alex Valadez succumbed to his wounds early this afternoon. RIP Officer.
A plain-clothes Chicago police officer was shot in the head and critically wounded early this morning in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, authorities said.
The attack occurred about 12:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of South Hermitage Avenue as the 27-year-old three-year veteran officer and his partner were investigating a report of shots fired, said Police Supt. Jody Weis at a news conference in the lobby of police headquarters.
The shots were fired from a vehicle with more than one person in it, Weis said. Weis, who at the early morning news conference was wearing a gray Bears sweatshirt and blue jeans, refused to discuss that vehicle.
