At the request of several Fraternal Order of Police members, union president Mark Donahue has written a letter to Chief Cook County Judge Timothy C. Evans, asking for investigations into the judicial decisions made in Gaston's case and in that of Kevin Walker, his 21-year-old alleged accomplice in Valadez's shooting. Walker also had a gun-related conviction that resulted in probation.
"These violent criminals received little or no penalty for their violent acts, acts which Officer Valadez and the members of the Chicago Police Department do their best to prevent every day," Donahue wrote.
Donahue said the level of frustration among officers is so high because probation violators are before judges each day without serious consequence.
Frustration leads to de-policing leads to decreasing numbers leads to depressed revenue leads to Detroit II. We've heard it's a proven mathematical formula.
