Over-Regulation

  • At Wednesday's City Council meeting, Lyle introduced an ordinance that would require operators of every parking facility in Chicago that's not self-park to inspect vehicles for damage "in the presence" of the owner and provide "written notice" of that damage before the vehicle is parked.

"Such written notice shall be signed by the ... operator and vehicle owner or operator and identify the location and extent of damage," the ordinance states.

And who will be tasked with traffic control when lines of cars extend out onto the streets and block the orderly flow of vehicles? Or when attendants and citizens have a dispute over what damage existed on what vehicles at what time? Civil procedure exists for a reason - let it work and stop regulating every little facet of peoples' lives. The city is on the verge of financial dissolution and aldercreatures are worried about car-dings?
