How Much a Gallon?

  • A gallon of regular unleaded will cost you more in Chicago than anywhere else in the country, according to a national survey released today.

The national Lundberg Survey of fuel prices said that among cities surveyed, Chicago had the highest average price for a gallon of regular unleaded: $3.22. Denver had the lowest average price at $2.71 a gallon.

The average price of regular gasoline in the United States has jumped more than 7 cents over a two-week period to $2.92.
Denver is in the mountains, miles from any navigable body of water, yet Chicago, at the convergence of land, sea and rail routes, has gas at a half-a-buck over the Denver price.

What could possibly be the factor that pushes the price so high?

UPDATE: Since we block quoted the BreakingNews site, they went and corrected the price downward 50 cents.
