In an apparent attempt to ease tensions with organized labor, the Daley administration today abruptly cancelled a “request for quotations” to purchase up to 200 “automated, side-loading refuse trucks” that could pave the way for scores of layoffs and service cuts.
[...] But Lou Phillips, business manager of Laborers Union Local 1001, said the RFQ was canceled because “we asked them to do it.“We helped them out of the budget problem. To slap us in the face with something like this was appalling. What kind of respect does it show this local or this leadership?’’
