Veteran? Or Insider?

  • A former Chicago City Hall official will succeed U.S. Rep.-elect Mike Quigley on the Cook County Board after winning the blessing of North Side Democratic power brokers Saturday.

Ward committeemen chose Bridget Gainer, 40, over Kimberly Walz, 34, who was Quigley's chief of staff and now plans to work in his local congressional office. None of the other six candidates got a vote.

Gainer, a city budget analyst and Chicago Park District lakefront director before going to work as Aon Corp.'s public strategy director, said her experience makes her "the best person for this job." She also boasted of "strong, progressive credentials."
The Gainer name has along and storied history here in town. So the more things change, the more they stay the same.
