Amazingly, even in the face a recession, he finds ways to spend taxpayers' cash on leeches:
- Gov. Pat Quinn on Friday signed into law a bill to limit how much utilities can charge low-income customers and to create a program to let them pay bills over time and avoid disconnection.
Tens of thousands of the poor, seniors and others on fixed incomes will qualify for the program, which restricts gas and electric bills to 6 percent of a household's income. Advocates say many of these families spend as much as 30 percent of their income on energy costs.
Have none of these people ever heard of a budget? You know what we do when the cost of electricity goes up? We turn off the lights. We go from a 75 watt bulb to a 60. We jack the A/C to 72 instead of 68. We adjust to the economic realities of the day. Gas bills? We certainly don't have all four burners on the stove going all winter, that's for sure. We wear a sweater, seal the leaky windows, throw an extra blanket on the bed.
What we don't do is go running to government to bail us out. We take responsibility for our situation and we work to change it. Quinn ought to be telling people to do the same...oh wait, he's a democrat. "Government, save me! Government, feed me! Government, clothe me! Government, buy me a house, power it, heat it, and I'll vote for you all my days and maybe even the days after I die!"
