Stealth Payroll?

No money for anyone who does, you know, actual work. But plenty on the "friends and family" plan:
  • A stealth payroll loaded with friends, relatives and political operatives of Chicago aldermen appears to violate a ban on political hiring and was not revealed to the federal court overseeing city hiring, the court-appointed monitor concluded Monday.

Noelle Brennan cited a series of "actual or potential abuses," including many highlighted by the Tribune in November when it documented the existence of the $1.3 million Finance Committee payroll.

"The city or City Council's failure to disclose the existence of (the payroll) through the four years since the monitor's appointment is concerning," Brennan wrote in her report filed with the court.

Daley wants to get out from under this hiring monitor, yet this crap continues on daily basis. And what sanctions or fixes do we ever see in the works? None that we can recall. We remember a few million dollars in payouts being spread around supposed victims of hiring abuses, but in a few cases, the supposed "abuse" was someone else's clout being heavier than someone else's phone call. Big Deal. Everyone still had a job. What's the point?
