I've Been Shot - Hurry Up!

This is the first time we've seen this appear in the papers:
  • A man whose car was stolen allegedly admitted to police officers he made a false call to 911 claiming he had been shot so officers would get their “asses” to the scene faster.

“ 'I’m the one who called,' ” Joshua Coleman told police when they spotted him at Englewood and Normal Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report. “ 'I said I got shot to get your asses here quicker. Are you gonna do anything about my car?' ”

Coleman, 21, an admitted gang member, first called emergency dispatchers to report that his car was stolen, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Erin Antonietti said.

When police didn't arrive immediately, he “was not pleased” and proceeded to place another 911 call, this time telling dispatchers he was shot in the leg in the 400 block of West Englewood, authorities said.

This is a constant state of being on the south and west sides. Everyone claims someone had a gun, flashed a gun, fired a gun, shot at someone, all to get police to respond faster. There are probably a hundred or more intersections coppers could rattle off that always seem to be full of invisible guns that are only visible to persons who can't even tie their shoes without police assistance.

We'd like to see calls like these result in more arrests, but we don't think the courts will treat it seriously.
