Thirty-one video poker machines were confiscated today from several south suburban businesses during illegal gambling raids by the Cook County Sheriff's Department.
No arrests were made, but officials say they're looking to charge employees who gave illegal payouts to customers using the video poker machines.
Offenders would face a misdemeanor gambling charge and a maximum fine of $1,000 and up to a year in jail.
Vice officers confiscated machines from 10 businesses--including some gas stations and liquor stores--in Ford Heights, Markham, Midlothian, Chicago Ridge, Summit, Brookfield, McCook, Cicero and Justice.
A combined $6,472 in cash was seized from them, officials said.

We might be middle aged or even old farts, but we remember when various Vice Units used to take down a wire room or two and sweep up at least that much in cash and a few million in "betting slips" for the media to "oooh" and "aaah" over.
