Shortshank's Mojo is Weak

  • Under pressure from the City Council, Mayor Daley has agreed to revise his mandatory furlough plan to include a sliding scale: the higher the salary, the more unpaid days off.

A meeting today of the City Council's Finance Committee, called to give quick approval to the furlough plan, was abruptly adjourned at the mayor's request. A full City Council vote was also put off indefinitely.

Finally, someone calling the mayor on his stupid ideas. Now, how about somebody slap the aldercreatures around for not joining in the belt tightening? The 6% raise they accepted, the 5% raise they gave all their hangers-on, and the massive increase in aldermanic "discretionary" spending accounts, which is like an earmark fund that they don't have to justify running somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.37 MILLION per aldercreature, not to mention their "expense accounts" that never seem to be audited and run a few hundred thousand per.
