Missed this story back on 28 October - another in a series of Daley crapping out a million dollars at a time:

  • Mayor Richard Daley today highlighted his proposal to spend an extra $1.4 million next year on programs aimed at ending homelessness as he said there's been a recent spike in the number of people at Chicago homeless shelters.

Daley said city count done in January showed the city's homeless population had dropped 10 percent to 5,170 in the past two years. The mayor said that number appears to have grown since then, though no figure was available.

So we're just supposed to trust him that the numbers are up, even without hard data to back it up? OK.

Then this appears the very next day:

  • Los Angeles County's homeless population has dropped 38% since 2007, according to a survey conducted earlier this year by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.

The count, which was conducted over three days in January, pegs the region's homeless population at 42,694 -- down from 68,808 in 2007.

Maybe LA is shipping all their homeless out here?
