Crime Down - Where's Our Contract?

  • Crime dropped 3.7 percent in January 2010 compared to January 2009, according to preliminary statistics released by Chicago police today.

The homicide count was down 16 percent in the comparison of the two months.

According to the police statistics, the violent crime index was down 9 percent, while the property crime index was down 2.2 percent.

If we're doing such a great job (and doing more with less), then it would seem to follow we are deserving of a rather significant performance based raise.

We don't see the garbage being picked up any faster - sometimes, they are even skipping a day or more. We don't see the buses running any better. We certainly don't see the school producing Nobel Prize winners recently. Only the police seem to be doing their jobs and stifling the criminal malfeasance that occurs on a daily basis. We'll take what the teachers and aldercreatures got and call it even.
