Burge Wins Another Round

Florida judge refuses to issue a subpoena:

• A Florida judge refused to issue a subpoena today that would require former Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge to testify in the case of a convicted murderer who says Burge’s underlings tortured him, the man’s attorney said.

  Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Walter Heinrich ruled that it would be a “futile and unnecessary act” to make Burge come to Chicago and plead the Fifth Amendment at Cortez Brown’s evidentiary hearing on Monday, said Brown’s attorney, Locke Bowman.

Brown wants Burge to come to Chicago and admit that he was the Area 2 Detective Commander when Brown was allegedly beaten into a confession and therefore responsible for everything that may or may not have occurred at Area 2. The prospect of having Burge under oath in an Illinois courtroom has people like Flint Taylor of the People's Law Office feeling a peculiar tingling in his naughty regions. However, Judge Heinrich took note of Burge's intentions that he will plead the Fifth to everything not connected to his own legal entanglements and as such, it would be pretty much pointless to send Burge to Chicago. Flint Taylor was all over the early news saying how this was a miscarriage of justice, how Burge was getting away with everything including stealing candy from the blind and what the hell happened to his tingling sensations?

At this point, the only people making any money off this are the lawyers.
