Chalkie Waxes Poetic

  • A 31-year-old man died this morning after he was shot during a struggle over guns as he tried to sell one of the weapons to another man on the Far South Side, authorities said.

The shooting, in which both men were wounded, happened about 3:15 a.m. at the buyer's apartment in the 10500 block of South Wabash Avenue, according to police.

The shooting apparently came about after the seller went to the other man's apartment to sell a handgun, according to a police summary of the incident. After the seller gave the buyer a revolver, the buyer started paying him.

The seller then took out a second handgun and a struggle began over the guns, according to police. Shots were fired, and the seller was shot in the chest, police said.

This being Daley's Chicago, we're sure that both seller and buyer were in possession of valid FOID cards, the weapon was properly registered and both parties complied with instant background checks and the like.

The fact is that a million gun laws wouldn't have made a difference to either of these mopes because criminals don't follow the rules. The only people all of Daley's gun laws and restrictions inconvenience are the law abiding citizens who aren't running around shooting each other.
