There is not a lot left for the Bears to evaluate entering tonight's preseason finale at Soldier Field against the Cleveland Browns with most of the starters scheduled to play a series, maybe two.
But don't try telling the players on a real or perceived bubble that little is at stake. Jobs, goals and dreams are on the line -- and knowing that general manager Jerry Angelo and coach Lovie Smith will have something to consider before final cuts for what might be two or three open spots, tops, on the 53-man roster. Players reported to training camp five weeks ago, and this marks their final opportunity to make a statement -- good or bad -- with 22 cuts due by 5 p.m. Saturday.
- What's at stake: Certainly not a playoff spot, but this game does have serious city implications. If the Cubs win, not only will this season's series end tied 3-3, but the all-time official series will be 36-36. Obviously, if the Sox win, they will have a 37-35 advantage and give their fans winter bragging rights.
Not bad for a Thursday.
