Cameras Feeling the Heat

What a difference three years makes. CBS 2 News reported three years ago:
  • They've fought for it for a long time. Now, a city neighborhood says it feels safer because it has a police camera.

Residents of Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood are applauding police and the installation of the camera in their community.

The blinking blue and white camera is a signal that street gangs aren't welcome in the neighborhood.
  • One camera in the Austin neighborhood was installed because the aldermen said that people wanted it, so CBS 2 decided to go out there and see how it was working out.

"The stuff that's happening in the neighborhood now and no one's really enforcing it," one neighborhood resident said.

"The police don't really come through," said another neighborhood resident.

When asked if the cameras discourage crime and drug dealing, he said, "It should, but it's not working. It's just a waste of money."
That would be because there aren't enough police to staff the cars, the beats, the districts. Nice to see the public finally taking notice. And the media playing catch-up.
