Memorial Month Events Continue

  • Chicago Police gathered Tuesday at the Fraternal Order of Police headquarters on West Washington to formally and permanently mark the names of three officers to die in the line of duty.

    “When we look at that wall they come back to us,’’ Belmont District Cmdr. John Kenny said of the memorial wall. “That’s why we are here today. Remembering the people that made us proud. Go forward and make them proud.’’

    The wall, outside the FOP headquarters, now contains the names Richard M. Francis, Nathaniel Taylor Jr. and Joseph M. Airhart, Jr.

And to make up for the complete lack of coverage for the past week, they include this:
  • The FOP service came amid several celebrations during Police Memorial Month, observed in May. The fifth annual Run to Remember was held over the weekend. Last Thursday, the Chicago Police Honor Guard posted a guard for 24 hours at the lakefront Gold Star Families Memorial and Park.
But no mention of the St. Jude's March.
