The Sun Times taps into parking ticket resentment, and since the police aren't writing nearly as many tickets as usual...:
The city's hunt to fill its cash-starved coffers has come to this: Some traffic-control aides -- those city employees in the fluorescent coats who help cars and pedestrians move through busy intersections -- are now writing parking tickets full time.
Given the furor over Mayor Daley's meter-privatization deal, it isn't a job where you make a lot of friends. And, in the case of one traffic-control worker, that has made her the subject of an investigation into whether she has been parking her personal car illegally as she tickets drivers in the South Loop.
Years ago, everyone knew about the M&M wrapper in the window that traffic control aides and others used to signal other revenue generators to leave their car alone. We don't know if they're still using it. But someone in the comments found something else that ought to be looked at:
- In the Sun Times article, 7 Dec, about the TMA parking illegaly then writing tickets, look at the photo, pg3, of her car. She has an FOP member sticker and a Sgt. association sticker.
Maybe she needs to be locked up.
We know those stickers don't mean much to other TMAs from personal experience. That's why we always park legally lately and walk the four or more blocks to our destination when in our personal cars. It's also why we took all the stickers off. But those stickers are like magnets to the flies that are the media. And whoever owns that car ought to stop giving the media a slamdunk story to slam the police again.
