Police shooting. Subject dead, cops OK:
Chicago police shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at officers this afternoon near East 67th Street and South Cornell Avenue on the South Side, police said.
No officers were hurt during the incident, which happened about 2:20 p.m. A loaded revolver that the man who was shot was using during the incident was found at the scene, police said.
Lots of shots fired calls today. That warm weather is a bitch. And today, the Department released the Crime Stats for the year so far:
- Overall crime from Jan 1-Feb 28th is down 10.2 percent from the same time last year. Murders decreased by 7.4 percent, aggravated batteries down by 3.8 percent and criminal sexual assaults down by 8.9 percent. Robberies increased by .5 percent. Additionally there were 50 murders compared to 54 last year.
Murder is down 7.4 percent. But wasn't it down 30% in January? Seems that the gangs did a little catching up in February even though this had been the coldest January in a decade or so.
Continue to be careful out there.
