Shouldn't someone from the mayor's office have caught this before it got out?
- The air wasn't sweltering and simmering in the unusually cool July of 2009, but a bloodbath still engulfed the streets of Chicago.
As of July 30, at least 42 people had been shot and killed, and 183 more had been shot and wounded since July 1. Among the injured were a 9-year-old girl, an 8-year-old boy, a UPS driver who was on a break after making a delivery, and two Chicago police officers serving a drug warrant.
That's over seven people a day catching lead. We heard Shortshanks has someone running around to every newspaper box, buying up copies of ....oh, wait ....this was a CBS report. Alrighty then, Plan B - Daley has someone running to every telephone pole cutting cables and ....wait a minute. Satellite dishes. Satellites are all over the place. They're watching us right now! Ok, ok, ok, Plan 4 then ....uh .... Oh crap, we sure hope the Olympic Committee isn't paying attention. Someone grab another suitcase full of cash and book a plane reservation. Someone has some 'splaining to do.
UPDATE: A handy map of all the July shootings. CBS says 31 shootings happened within a mile of Washington Park - Daley's choice for the Opening and Closing ceremonies. We can only hope the national costumes include a kevlar vest and trauma plate.
